“TOO MUCH ROAD SEALING REPORTED FOR EDGECUMBE”

“It is news to me that we are going to seal all round the station roads at Edgecumbe,” declared* Cr D. C. Butler when commenting on press reports of the annual meeting of the Edgecumbe Progressive Association that sealing is to be done this year to the railway station yard on Station Road and the railway station gate on Railway Street, at yesterday’s meeting of the Whakatane County Council. As far as he knew that amount of sealing was not contemplated at the present time he added.

The county engineer, Mr C. H. Brebner, remarked that the supposed sealing was news to him too.

Cr W. Hunter said he had not been at the meeting of the Progressive Association and the first he knew about any sealing was the report appearing in the press. Cr R. C. Leslie suggested that the meeting may have been misreported. He said he had been at a previous meeting which, he alleged, had not ben reported correctly.

No action was taken but it was pointed out that the Council did not have plans for that amount of sealing work at Edgecumbe at the present time.
