Repairs Wanted To Edgecumbe-Te Teko Main Highway Now

As soon as monetary authority is received reconstruction work is to be proceeded with on the Edgecum-be-Te Teko main highway, it was stated at the monthly meeting of the Whakatane County Council yesterday. This is the reply, that is to be sent to the Whakatane Chamber of Commerce who complained about the appalling condition of the road at the present time. The Chamber pointed out that in a previous letter the Council had stated that negotiations had been in progress since September of last year with the Main Highways Board for the reconstruction of the highway. During the 12 months that the negotiations had been going on the road had fallen into a dangerous state of disrepair. It was considered that something should be done immediately to reduce the risk of damage and accident, particularly at the Te Teko end of the road.
