MOVE TO FORM A BAY ROD & GUN ASSOCIATION

On Sunday teams from the Rotorua, Tauranga and Whakatane Rod and Gun Clubs met at Rotorua to shoot for the Jenkins Cup. A very strong wind made conditions difficult but nevertheless some good performances were put up by individual shooters. One of the most exciting contests witnessed for several years resulted in the Tauranga team winning the Cup by one point in the shoot off after the Whakatane “A” team and Tauranga had tied with 51 each out of a possible 60.

The Rotorua A team (previous holders of the Cup) were third with 43 points, Rotorua B and Whakatane B fourth with 37 points. The Whakatane B team Was led by the veteran, W. H. Semmens, who shot for this Cup in the first contest in 1912.

A meeting to discuss the formation of a Bay of Plenty Association was held after the shoot, Mr W. C. Davies, Whakatane, being elected chairman and Mr R. S. Ricketts, secretary. Delegates present wfere very much in favour of forming an association and it was decided to invite affiliated Clubs in the Bay of Plenty to a meeting at Tauranga next month.
