Supply Of Matches Is Becoming More Plentiful Now
The supply of matches, which up to recently has been on the short side, seems assured for some time to come as a result of a Government decision to issue import licences to importers who can prove availability within the soft currenc} r area.
The decision has merchants a little puzzled, as it has upset their forward buying calculations. These have been based on the assumption that imported matches would be channelled through two firms only with purchases from the United Kingdom, but by throwing open the whole soft currency area sources of supply (Finland, Sweden, Italy and Czechoslovakia); provision for future requirements has become a problem, especially as the margin between under-supply and oversupply these days is so narrow.
