SCHOOL TEACHERS ' HOSTEL WANTED AT EDGECUMBE
There is a possibility that a hostel may be erected at Edgecumbe to supply accommodation for school teachers if the intentions of the Edgecumbe District Parent-Teacher Association are fully realised, it was revealed at the monthly meeting of the Association. Concern was expressed at the lack of suitable accommodation and it was felt that a hostel would be the answer to the present problem.. Support for the scheme of pressing for a hostel was received from Mr W. Sullivan M.P., and he urged that the scheme be kept forward. The problem has been worrying the Association for some considerable time and so urgent was the situation that a remit was sent to the annual conference of the Auckland Federation of Parent-Teacher Associations stressing the unsatis-v factory state of affairs and suggesting that provision of hostels might solve the problem. A report of the conference was given by Mr H. Lopdell, who said that it had passed a resolution suggesting that the Edgecumbe Association seek the opinion of the Auckland Education Board. This is to be done and it was decided to tell the Board that land is now being subdivided at Edgecumbe for building purposes and that a hostel situated at Edgecumbe could accommodate staff from at least three neighbouring schools.
