Stock Shot
There have been several reports from farmers lately of stock being shot by pig hunters and deer stalkers. It is believed that in the Tarawera area some weeks ago a few cattle were shot and the land is now closed to all shooters. A similar report has come from Galatea where a number of sheep are believed to have been shot. Blood Transfusions In New Zealand last year there were 9495 blood transfusions connected with the St John Ambulance. Names and addresses of those willing to be called upon to give blood transfusions are kept at hospitals and have been the means of saving many lives. Such people are urgently wanted at Whakatane to volunteer. Seeded Raisins Scarce
Christmas supplies of packet seeded raisins from Australia will be short this year. Merchants here have received advice from the Australian Dried Fruits Association that only 40 per cent of the quantities ordered will be available. The unused portion of import licences for the raisins has been allocated to packed mixed fruits, containing seeded raisins, currants, sultanas and peel, but owing to the price of these the licences will not go so far.
