Metallic Particles In Lubricating Oil

It is reported from London that several British automobile manufacturers are fitting magnetised alloy steel draining plugs in the base of the oil sump of their engines." The objective is to collect the minute metallic particles that, in due course, are collected in the lubricating oil as it is pressure fed to the power unit. The same idea, it is stated, has been adopted by some U.S.A. motor manufacturers. The wonder is that this simple and inexpensive method of collecting from the engine lubricating system, fine metallic dust which increases the wear of cylinders and bearings, was not universally adopted years ago.
