Dressmaking Hints Given To Meeting Of Waimana W.I.

This month’s meeting of the Waimana Women’s Institute opened with the Ode to Friendship, and Mrs Stansbury read the Aspirations. Mrs Hewitt presided. An interesting letter from Mrs McCallion, Federation President, was read by Mrs Wylde. An amusing Mime was well acted by Mesdames Potter, Martin and Stevenson.

Mrs G. Mitchell gave many helpful hints on dressmaking, and Mrs Looney gave a travel talk, a trip to Greymouth and back. The day’s competitions proved very popular, there being large entries in all classes. Mesdames D. Woolfield and D. White acted as judges. Results:—

Best single flower, Mrs L. McDonald 1, Mrs Hewitt 2, Mrs H. Bell 3; best multiple flower, Mrs Whiteman 1, Mrs C. Bell 2, Miss J. Stevens 3; best vegetable, Mrs M. King 1, Mrs Hewitt 2, Mrs Whiteman 3; marmalade, Mrs Stevenson 1, Mrs Hewitt 2, Mrs Bettleheim 3; vase ef spring flowers, Miss Stevens 1, Mrs Hewitt 2, Mrs F. Bell 3; machinists apron, Mrs Hewitt 1, Mrs McDonald 2, Mrs Hodgson 3.
