Fourteen Enter For Ploughing Match

Tomorrow morning, on Mr G. King’s property at Otakiri, the Otakiri Young Farmers’ Club will stage its first annual ploughing match. This year, entries had to be restricted to members of the Otakiri Club, but it is hoped, if this contest proves the success it undoubtedly should be, to be able to extend it into a district event in future.

Fourteen young ploughmen have entered for what is believed by the organisers to be the first event of its kind ever held in this district, and they confidently expect considerable public interest to be shown in it.

This year’s match is in the nature of an experiment, and there will be only the one class, tractor ploughing, but it is hoped that the competition will promote more interest in better ploughing amongst the young farmers of the district.'

The winner will become the holder of a handsome trophy presented by Mr R. Barton, an Otakiri farmer with a lifelong interest in ploughing. The other place-getters will receive certificates.
