Two Junior Members Entertain Otakiri Women’s Institute
The highlight of the monthly meeting of the Otakiri Women’s Institute was the entertainment by two junior members, Misses Dawn Armstrong, who is paying a short visit to the district, and staying with her parents at Otakiri, and Miss Pat Winters, is spending her term vacation with her parents at Otakiri.
Miss Armstrong sang a bracket of songs and a fine selection of compositions were played on the piano by Miss Winters. “The Awaiti Players,” including members of the Otakiir Drama Group, were congratulated by the members present, on their recent success at Rotorua, where they competed with the play, “Sanctuary” gaining first place, and also winning the Silver Cup. Mrs Hutton spoke on behalf of the Red Cross, which would appreciate any clothing suitable for sending overseas. Mrs Keir, who was present at the Opotiki W.I. birthday banquet on August 18, spoke very highly of the evening, the occasion being the 21st birthday. Competition winners were:—
Vegetable: Mrs Lambert 1, Mrs Butler 2, Mrs Peck 3. Single flower: Mrs Fulford 1, Mrs Steenson 2, Mrs Winters 3. Double flower: Mrs Hutton 1, Mrs Lockyer 2, Mrs Keir 3. A short short story: Mrs Lambert 1. Best laundered man’s shirt: Mrs Smith 1. Cauliflower pickle: Mrs Winters 1, Mrs'Smith 2.
