Lit Fire In State Forest
Pleading guilty to three charges, of entering the Lake Rotoehu State Forest on April 17, hunting pigs without the necessary permits, and lighting a fire in the forest, Rangi Heke, railway surfaceman, Awakaponga, was fined £l, costs £2 on each of the first two charges and £3, costs 10s, on the third charge by Mr E. L. Walton, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court at Whakatane yesterday. Constable R. F. Julian told the court that defendant had been caught in the forest with two other youths just about to singe a pig in front of a fire. The fire had been lit on the road even though there were “no. fire” notices about. The fire lighting was considered serious and when interviewed defendant had taken full responsibility.
