Obituary
MU C. H. CHKISTENSEM, J.P.
A link with the early cabinet business at Whakatane was severed on Wednesday with the sudden death of Mr Christian Hansen Christensen, J.P., at the age of 64. At the time of his death Mr Christensen was loading timber into his shop, which is just opposite his home in Commerce Street, Whakatane, when he suddenly dropped dead at about 5.15 p.m. Well known in Whakatane because of his fine cabinet business and his interest in public affairs and sporting activities Mr Christensen has been a resident of the district for a great number of years. He was born at Dunedin and at an early age travelled to England to learn the cabinet making trades Later on his return to New Zealand he settled at Whakatane, working first in a furnishing store before branching out on his own account. An active sportsman he was a member of the bowling club and also a well known follower of local rugby. Mr Christensen was a supporter of the Labour Party and for many years was organiser for this area. He was made a Justice of the Peace and was a well known and much respected resident of the district.
