Awaiti Players’ Success In Rotorua Drama Festival
Some time back, drama enthusiasts in the W.I. of the Edgecumbe and Otakiri districts, embarked on the formation of a society designed to arouse interest in drama over a wider field. A drama club known as Awaiti Players has since been formed with Mrs Armstrong of Otakiri as President and Mrs McLean of Edgecumbe as secretary. The club has affiliated with the Rotorua area of the British Drama League, and as an initial venture two casts were entered for the League’s Drama Festival at Rotorua last week. “Sanctuary,” .with a cast of seven, produced by Mrs Peck, gained highest honours on that occasion. In addition, Mrs Carr of the same cast, secured the award for Best Actress of the festival. The Rotorua Festival acts as a selective test for competitions further afield, and arrangements are already in train for the winning Awaiti Playcrs : team to represent Rotorua Area, British Drama League at Palmerston North w J xt month.
The winning team at Palmerston is eligible to contest the New Zealand finals at Wellington.
