Taneatua District Not Interested In St John Movement
Concern of the lack of any apparent interest in the St John movement at Taneatua was ex 1 - pressed at Wednesday night’s annual meeting of the Whakatane St John Ambulance Association. Despite all efforts by the few members of the old brigade very little had been accomplished because of the apathetic attitude, that most people in the district appeared to have adopted, it was stated. A new move had how been made to approach the business section of Taneatua with the Young Farmers' Club and it was hoped that a public meeting would soon be called in an effort to revive the old brigade. The present few members at Taneatua are members of the railways staff and because of shift work cannot always be on duty at sports meetings. On one occasion an approach was made to the Taneatua football club but the St John member, who was to give the address, alleged he received such a discourteous hearing that nothing was done.
