New Humber Car Combines Looks And Fine Performance
Latest of the new cars to be seen around Whakatane is the Humber 10. The Humber has always been a progressive car, content with nothing less than leadership in its class. Mr Magnus Lennie, the local dealer, has given some details of the latest expression of the forward policy of the Rootes Group revealed in the new Humber 10 and Hawk, which present a striking advance in automobile design, the culmination of years of planning, research and practical test. The beautiful and original styling is modern, but these flowing lines follow by no means solely the dictates of fashion, but have been scientifically planned to achieve certain definite advantages for the owner. The impression of real bigcar roominess prevails throughout the spacious interior of both models and all seating is contour correct and situated well within the wheelbase.
Superlative riding comfort and stability is provided by a suspension system which smoothes out the roughest of roads and combines independent front coil suspension with long underslung semi-elliptic rear springs, torsion bar sway eliminator and double acting hydraulic shock absorbers front and rear. The opticurve windscreen and rear window give an exceptionally wide field of vision. The large luggage locker provides ample accommodation for all needs.
The synchromatic finger tip gear control gives a delightfully smooth and rapid change and the Locheed two leading shoe hydraulic, brakes ensure perfect control under all conditions. A special radio, designed for the Humber is also available as an optional extra. The new Humber range incorporates all that is latest and best in modern engineering thought and invention, whilst retaining those proved successful features which have made Humber reliability a byword.—P.B.A.
