Red Cross Sends Money To Geneva For Urgent Appeals
Mrs A. W. Winstone, Whakatane, returned this week from attending a meeting of the Dominion Executice Committee of the Neva Zealand Red Cross Society in Wellington.
It was decided to send £SO to the League of the Red Cross Societies in Geneva to be held for urgent appeals. This arose from the request of a Yugoslav in New Zealand, who asked for Red Cross help in sending a certain drug unobtainable in the U.S. for treatment of a sick relative there. In this case the unavoidable dedays in transmitting money overseas were fortunately harmless, but, since the establishment of this fund supplies of' a rare drug were despatched urgently to another; case at the request of the N.Z. Red Cross Society and saved a life. To assist earthquake sufferers in Ecuador, a grant of 100 guineas will be made by the New Zealand Red Cross Society. An appeal among the society’s centres has been launched, to augment this sum. A grant of £lO was also made to the Indonesian Red Cross.
