Kowhai Women’s Institute Meeting

The monthly meeting of the Kowhai Women’s Institute was well attended, Mrs M. Cooper presiding.

The “Golden Thread” was read by Mrs Haverbier, who chose interesting articles from the Institute Journal, “Home and Country.” Mrs J. E. Winstone gave a most interesting talk on the Red Cross and spoke of the great work that was being done both overseas and in New Zealand.

Mrs Sutcliffe very capably. demonstrated the making of Norfolk Pine Needle Baskets. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Mrs Winstone and Mrs Sutcliffe, who were presented with posies of flowers.

The Roll Call “A Garment for Britain” was well responded to. A large number of warm articles was received.

A wall competition was won by Miss McDiarmid.

Monthly competition winners:— Thrift article made from sugar bag: Miss Fife 1, Miss kichardson 2, Mrs Rae 3. Fancy sweet box: Miss Richardson 1, Mrs Cooper 2, Miss Fife 3. Hostesses for the evening were Mesdames Herbison, Henderson and Misses Hannah and Fennessy.
