WAIHAKA & WAIMANA WIN COMPETITIONS

A big increase in the standard of play of all teams was the most noticeable feature of the Matatua table tennis competitions for 1949. In both A and B grades players improved and with the experience of F. Paton the Association had some good games during the year. The A grade competition was won by Wairaka, one point ahead of Hokowhitu. Behind them came Waimana, Paroa and Ruatoki in that order. The B grade ended close and resulted in a dead heat for first between Wairaka and Waimana, each gaining seyen points. In the playoff Waimana went head to win by 16 sets to eight.
