OPPOSITION & COMPETITION
Sir,—Opposition according to the dictionary is the situation of two heavenly bodies from each other when distant in longitude from each other, or contraiety. Which definitely describes the position of our representatives at Wellington who govern by the divine right of King George V. i Competition is defined as strife in common for the same object, contention for superiority, rivalry. So much for verbal explanations. But there is the human element, which all who conscientiously examine themselves know is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked. But mingled with the human is the divine antidote for the feelings of the flesh, the only cure for human frailty. 1 Parliamentary opposition concentrates on exposing the wrongs of the other side nothing is said of the good. Tvsb wrongs don’t make one right, therefore the majority of voters conclude both are wrong, which begets indifference, apathy, oblivion. The three causes of the decline and fall of all the great powers that have passed away. The only remedy lies in the voters hands less consideration for self and class, especially for those of all classes who are less fortunate than themselves, poverty is not the only cause of trouble. It has been truly said that he is happiest whose wants are least, and uneasy lies the head that wears a crown. An attitude more conciliatory than the prevailing self-seeking of today would bring politics more in line with the immortal sermon on .the mount and- shorten the gap between the millineum and the chaotic condition of the world today. Politicians are what their constituents make them. "Weather Cocks to indicate which way the public wind blows. Yours etc., HARRY SERGANT.
