New Zealand In Favour Of Empire Wool Organisation

The New Zealand Wool Board is strongly in favour of a.scheme for the formation of a wool marketing organisation on an Empire basis as a partnership between the woolgrowing interests of New Zealand, Australia and South Africa and,the manufacturing and consuming interests of Britain.

Making this point in it's annual report, the Board points out that such an organisation is also the objective of the South African woolgrowers, whose point of view was fully explained by Mr J. H. Moolman, Chairman of the South African Wool Board, during his recent visit to New Zealand. He intimated

that the woolgrowing industry would solidly support such an organisation and they had considerable funds available in their contributory charge account for financing it. Australia Approached

The report states that on their return from the I.W.S. Executive Committee meeting held in London in July, 1948* Mr N. R. Jameson, Chairman of the New Zealand Wool Board, and its deputy-chairman Mr W. Horrobin, took the opportunity while in Australia of discussing the possibility of the setting up of an organisation to take the J.O. had completed its operations. At that stage growers in Australia were uncertain in their ideas regarding the future of wool marketing. The New Zealand representatives expressed the views of New Zealand woolgrowers before' the special committee set up in Australia to take evidence on the subject. The committee completed its de-

liberations and eventually reported to the annual meeting of the Australian Woolgrowers Council in June, 1949, in favour of a post J.O. scheme somewhat similar to the one already in operation.
