Federated Farmers Want Unoccupied Land Developed

The Land Committee of Federated Farmers has laid down principles for land settlement which were adopted at the recent conference of the Federation. These took the form largely of the advocacy of the development of land, which is at present idle and unoccupied. They laid down/ the principle that any holding should be 'large enough to enable the farmer to provide a reasonable standard of living for his family, to enable him to rear and educate his children satisfactorily, and to retire in his old age in reasonable comfort.

They also considered that, in any subdivision, the State should recognise its responsibility for any financial discrepancy between a just price to the vendor and a fair price to the purchaser. They also supported the use of table mortgages.
