Whakatane W.I. Co-operates With Beautifying Society
At the August meeting of the Whakatane W.I. Mrs K. Stewart presided over a god attendance.
, Remits for the bi-annual Council meeting were discussed, and the appointment of delegates is to take place at the September meeting. The Link letter was read by Mrs 1 Stewart. Three new members were welcomed.
Members were very interested in the making of Norfolk pineneedle baskets, capably demonstrated by Mrs Sutcliffe.
The guest speaker, Mr E. R. Dillicar, of the Beautifying Society, -chose “Civic Pride” as the subject of his talk. The roll call. “Suggestions f-or beautifying our town” brought forth a number of excellent ideas many of which,are already being considered by the Society, said Mr Dillicar.
At the conclusion of his speech he was accorded a hearty vote of thanks and asked to accept two Karaka trees for planting on Arbor Day from the Institute. _ . A short humorous play was read by Mesdames Stewart and Murphy. Knitted tea cosy, Mrs Larsen 1, Mrs Sims 3; jam tarts, Mrs 1, Mrs Comer 2; Iceland poppies, Mrs Whittle 1, Mrs Comiskey 2. A crochet tea cosy was won by Mrs Robinson. Hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames M. King, King Snr., Kilgour, Littlejohn, Lovelock, Luck, Lysaght, J. Martin and N. Martin.
