HEART TIMBER IS AVAILABLE FOR FLOORING
At no time had the use of heart quality timber for flooring of houses built under rehabilitation loans been prohibited, said the Minister of Works, Mr Semple, recently. He said the recent report to that effect must have been based on a misinterpretation of the regulations. No such restriction had ever applied to any class of permanent housing construction whether financed by the Government or by private enterprise. While timber production had greatly increased, so had the demand for heart quality timber for flooring and it was sometimes difficult to obtain adequate supplies. This difficulty, which was one of supply only, applied equally to State rental houses and other classes of house construction.
