Music, Art Festival For Whakatane
Whakatane may soon have an annual music and art festival in line with Edinburgh’s and the one proposed for Auckland. Conceived on a less ambitious scale but with the same object, it will begin in the coming school holidays. The programme includes vocal and instrumental items, dancing, impromptu and prepared speeches and choral work. Competent judges for each section have been secured, and Whakatane business firms have contributed generously toward a fund for prizes and trophies. The committee formed to organise the venture expects it to become Increasingly popular each year. A copy of the schedule appears elsewhere in this edition of the Beacon.
