RIFLE CLUB WINS CLOSE CHALLENGE
At a challenge shoot on Thursday the Whakatane Legion of Frontiersmen and the miniature rifle club team, A. Baker, D. Baker, B. Needham and Miss B. Fuze, defeated the Loan and Mercantile team, R. Hunter, Miss V. Browne, Mrs R. Hunter and H. Neal, 228 to 190. L. O. Stewart was the winner of the silver teaspoon, and Miss A. Bathe won the junior pennant. The “own start” sweepstake was won by D. O'. Stewart. At the next shoot, to be held on August 18, the Rifle Club w ;n shooting against the A.T.C. and the Beacon, both of which are strong teams and will make exciting competition. Results: — Senior Section: L, O. Stewart 94, C. Bathe 93, R. King 91, W. Tyssen 90, A. Bradshaw 87, E. Middlemas 85, Mrs Critchley 83, D. O. Stewart 83, W. Addison 81, M. R. Thompson 80, F. Wqods 80, M. Whittaker ,73, Mrs Bradshaw 71, E. R. Hunt 62. Junior Section: Miss A. Bathe 88, D. Baker 72, B. Needham 63, A. Baker 58, Miss B. Furze 33.
