VISITING EXPERT ASSISTS LOCAL ARCHERY CLUB
Some interesting points on the sport of archery was given by Mr J. Thuell, publicity officer of the Auckland Archery Club, when he unexpectedly visited the Whakatane Archery Club at this week’s shoot. One of the leading New Zealand archers today he had some useful information to give' and was able to give valuable assistance to the newly-formed local club.
Because of the present import restrictions archery, more than any other sport, was being affected .by the acute shortage of equipment. Bows and arrows were almost impossible to obtain although it was hoped that the position would be very much improved by the end of next month, Mr Thuell said. All archery equipment was very short in the country and most clubs were just making do with what they had in hand.
Mi* Thuell said he thought that within about two months the position would improve as most sports stores had large orders for wooden and steel bows.
When more equipment was available it was probable that the sport would grow more quickly than it was at present.
Turning to the standard of the Whakatane Club Mr Thuell said he was greatly impressed with the progress made so far. However, it was only a few weeks old and good shooting could not be expected in that shore time. But with the continued valuable help of the Opotiki Club and a continuation of the standard already reached he thought that it should not be long before some Whakatane members would be ready for championships.
