Money For School Assistance

A sum of £lO has been granted the Whakatane Rugby Sub-Union to assist rugby at the Ruatoki school by the Bay of Plenty Rugby Union. Rugby Teams in the Bay / A total of 114 teams are affiliated to the Bay of Plenty Rugby Unicg^wand are in the seven sub-unions. This was revealed at a recent' executive meeting of the Union.

Awakeri Girls’ Club

A meeting of the newly formed Awakeri Country Girls’ Club is to be held in the Awakeri Hall on Monday evening in conjunction with the Awakeri Young Farmers’ Club. The Girls’ Club now seems well established and all farmers of the district and their wives are in-' vited to attend the meeting to see how the club is progressing.

Basketball Dance

Members of the A.T.C. attending the camp at Whakatane tomorrow and visiting competitors in the Whakatane Indoor Basketball Association’s annual tournament will be attending the combined Whakatane dance in the winter show building tomorrow night. The indoor basketball games will be played in the hall during the day and the dance is due to start after the final match at about 8.30 p.rri. Thornton Y.F.C. To Broadcast A radio script for broadcasting was prepared at the monthly meeting of the Thornton Young Farmers’ Club. The club has been able to secure broadcasting time over station IYZ. The meeting also finalised arrangements for a field day on calf judging which is to be held in the Thornton School. Two debates are to be held later in the year. Because of the resignation of the chairman, Mr F. E. J. Broaamore, Mr P. Gow was elected to this position.
