(By “Coxswain”)
With the year now far advanced interest in the approaching rowing season is increasing at Whakatane and the local club is beginning preparations for what is expected to be one of the best years yet. Although Whakatane rowers have no possible chance of taking part in /- the Empire Games they have some personal interest in them because the rowing events are to be held at Lake Karapiro, only about hve hours drive from Whakatane. Local enthusiasts have the obvio'us chance of witnessing these events. But coming nearer home the usual regattas are to be held dnd for Whakatane the first will be the Hamilton Regatta, where crews taking part in the Empire Games are to be invited to attend. Some of the Whakatane members have already been out on the river and when the season' gets under way they expect to be fit for a good start. But there is still some work to be done on the boats and in the shed and to get everything prepared as soon as possible a working. bee of all members is being called for 9 a.m. Sunday, at the shed.
