Kowhai W.l.’s July Meeting

The July meeting of the Kowhai Women’s Institute was well attended, Mrs Cooper presiding. An interesting demonstration of rug making was given by Mrs Print, who was accorded a vote of thanks and presented with a bouquet of flowers. The .Drama Club entertained with a play entitled “Matrimonial.” The roll call, a Cake of Soap and a collection to purchase fat for Britain drew good response. The Golden Thread, which was very interesting, was read by Mrs Herbison who chose as the subject the Braille System for the Blind. Competitions were won by Mrs Timbs (guessing the dry ingredients for cake making) and Miss Finlay - son (mystery parcel). Monthly competitions: Fair Isle knitting, Miss Fife 1, Miss Sutcliffe 2, Mrs Haverbier 3. Design in colour for banner, Miss Richardson 1. Hostesses for the evening were, Mesdames Haverbier and Ellis, Misses Hall and Fife.
