Edgecumbe Bridge Used By Road Services

Until the present danger notices at either approach of the Edgecumbe bridge over the Rangitaiki River are removed no Railway Road Services buses are to use the bridge, it was revealed at the monthly meeting of the Whakatane County ' Council yesterday. Repairs to the bridge are still being carried out but there is some doubt yet whether the structure will be safe for passenger Even when the repairs are completed the chairman, Mr J. L. Burnett, said he did not think heavy traffic could be permitted to use the bridge. After some discussion it was left to the county engineer, Mr C. H. * Brebner, to report back to the council on the state of the bridge alter it had been repaired and the type of traffic that would be able to use it.
