EDGECUMBE BUS PASSENGERS NOW AT FACTORY

A request from the Whakatane County Council to have the Roto-rua-Opotiki passenger service, in each direction, run via Thornton has been refused by the Railway Road Services, it was stated to the Whakatane County Council yesterday.

The timetable on this route, according to the Road Services, was difficult to maintain because of tbe poor state of the road round the lakes and through the Waimana Gorge. However it was pointed out that arrangements had been made for vehicles to run around to the Rangi. taiki Dairy Factory to pick up passengers waiting under the factory store verandah. Suitable arrangements had also been made for parcels traffic while mail is to be collected from the service cars at the viaduct by the postmistress.
