Labour Party Branch Favours Local StateHousing Committee
Present local agitation for a State house allocation committee for Whakatane was discussed by the monthly meeting of the Whakatane Branch of the New Zealand Labour Party, which expressed full agreement with the proposal. In May 1948, the Branch made representations to the Minister, but nothing was done at that time. In the light of fresh indications that public opinion is behind the idea, those representations have been renewed.
