JUNIOR COMPETITION TO COMMENCE TOMORROW
Mainly through the efforts .of the Whakatane Hockey Club a junior hockey competition has been started and play is to commence tomorrow. Four clubs are expected to begin the competition but as it becomes more widely known it is hoped to have more teams playing. The idea of first starting the competition was first mooted by the Whakatane Club, who raised the necessary finance to- supply the
young players with sticks. It has gradually caught on and the other clubs in the endeavouring to start teams. UmßEs Most of the players - are children and should the competnßHH succeed senior hockey in tral Bay of Plenty should not be ■ lacking in players in the future. Yesterday an official of the Wha—katane Club appealed, for more junior players, both girls and .• lie >■- said that it was hoped to make* this junior competition as strong as thepresent senior grade.
