Good Results Achieved By Rehab. Bursars Last Year
Last year was another year of good results by ex-servicemen and women studying on full-tjjme rehabilitation bursaries at New Zealand universities and colleges. Details given by the Minister of Rehabilitation (Mr Skinner) show that full-time rehabilitation bursars passed in 76 per. cent of subjects sat in the 1948 examinations. This compares with 79.3 per cent in 1947 and 70.8 per cent in 1946. The Minister said particularly pleasing results were obtained in such exacting subjects as medicine, mining and engineering, in which the percentages of subjects passed were 81.5, 92.5 and 77.2. Results of 100 per cent of subjects passed were obtained in commercial art, -.fine arts, home science, radiography,and wool classing. Other subjects in which - there were high percentage passes were dentistry (91.9), horticulture (95.4), agriculture (82.9), divinity. (83.3), music (85.7), physiotherapy (86.9, education diploma (80), and architecture (75.4).
The remaining subjects sat and the percentage passes registered were: Accountancy (66.6), intermediate examination (50), law (55.3), science (64), and urban valuation (50). For part-time rehabilitation bursars, the percentage of subjects passed of those sat was 42.5, best results being obtained in fine arts (100), dentistry (91.2), urban valuation (88.2), insurance , (80.4), pharmacy (80), intermediate’' examination. (75), and medicine (74.2).
“Rehabilitation bursars have, I feel, made a very creditable showing,” added Mr Skinner.
