P.M.A.’s Good Year Locally
A meeting of the local branch of the P.M.A. was held on Monday evening in the Social Room of the Rangitaiki Plains Dairy Factory, Edgecumbe. A satisfactory attendance resulted from very short notice.
The chairman in his report stated that the 1948/49 season had been a successful one. Increases had been obtained in most classes of stock. Bobby calves totalled 20,873, heading the list an average payment of over 26/1 net resulted. An increase in the price and number of pigs handled caused favourable comment. A final payment of lOd per pound for bacon, 9|d for pork and sad for choppers was achieved, which means that a large amount over schedule was returned to suppliers at no cost whatsoever. Grass seed was a new activity, large quantities coming into the district. The following were elected to the committee:—
Chairman, Mr J. Nielsen (reelected); committee, Messrs E. C. Haultain, R. Dunning, J. M. Barr, C. Smith, S. Campbell, D. Missen, F. Broadmore, H. Carter, Withy, G. Walker; secretary, Mr C. Haultain.
