Yacht Worth £l5O Raised Only £37/10/-
“Yacht for sale—what am I offered?”
The first voice suggested— “£2o?” The auctioneer stared, gulped, and looked as if he was going to ignore the bid altogether. Then, by much goading from the auctioneer, the price gradually crept up to £37 10s. There the bidding stopped. The auctioneer gave up in disgust. The yacht was placed in reserve at a price of at least £4O. This uncompleted transaction occurred at the premises of a wellknown Wellington auctioneering firm. A yacht was being sold —it was stated to be in the Sanders Cup class. Despite an assurance from the auctioneer that the' craft was worth every bit of £l5O, the bidders were unimpressed, and were loath to come forward.
