No Medicine Will Cure Common Cold
To the many Whakatane people who are at present suffering from colds the statement of the Health magazine that no medicine has yet been discovered that will cure a cold is of some interest. It advises sufferers to stay away from all patent medicines unless they have been specifically recommended by a doctor.
If you have a cold, here’s what to do:
1. Stay at home and rest This will give your body a better chance to fight off the infection. 2. Drinkplenty of fluids. 3. Eat lightly—avoid too many sweet or rich foods. 4. Keep out of draughts—stay in an even temperature. 5. When you blow your nose, do so gently. Violent blov/ing may force mucus into the inner ear and start an infection. 6. If you’ve got a nagging cold fhat seems to go on and on, make a date to see your doctor. 7. If you have: A fever or chills, a pain in the chest which “catches” when you breathe, or if you cough up bloody, rustcoloured sputum, call your doctor at once! 8. Be sure to follow the advice of your physician.
