Power Granted To Hear Rugby Test
Due to the efforts of the Borough Council it is expected power will be available for the
Rugby test broadcast.
A suggestion that the power might be turned on at 1 a.m. Sunday to enable people to listen to the rugby test between New Zealand and South Africa was made by the de-puty-mayor, Mr C. S. Armstrong, to the Whakatane Borough Council on Monday night. He thought that this would be well appreciated, even if it meant a cut on Sunday afternoon.
The Mayor, Mr B. S. Barry, said that the difficulty was, that the power was switched off at the Edgecumbe sub-station.
The New Zealand v South Africa test is to be broadcast direct from South Africa, through station 2YA Wellington and is expected to be received in New Zealand at about 1 a.m.
