V Y.F.C. To Broadcast T Arrangements for members of Young Farmers’ Clubs to take part in a 15 minute programme over IYZ every alternate Wednesday evening have been made by the broadcast- Xing authorities. All clubs are to given the opportunity of being re- V presented on the programme. District Cub Rally Tomorrow four Cub packs comprising about 100 boys will assemble at Thornton for the district Cub rally, main event at which will be competition for the Big John Memorial Shield. The rally, which will be run as a picnic gathering will be under the auspices of the Thornton committee. Show Traffic Was Heavy On each of the four show days in June traffic in the Whakatane ough was heavy, especially on. the final two days. However, on each day the traffic was handled without ' difficulty and dispersed without delay the traffic inspector, Mr M. C. Bridge, told the Whakatane Borough Council this week. Meat Board Election The Returning Officer of the New Zealand Meat Producers Board announces that following on the with- -A drawal of Mr A. W. Moore, no elec- \ tion will be necessary in the Auckland Electorate. Messrs E. Cameron, Onewhero and H. A. Wagstaff, Matamata, are therefore declared elected. New Library Books , At the monthly meeting of the Whakatane Public Library Committee the following books were selected: Storm of Time, E. Dark; Castle on the Hill, E. Goudge; Captive Princess, M. Irwin; The Rusty Road, N. Scanlan; The Marriage of Claudia, Rose Frankau; And Then You Came, Ann Bridge; Death Watch, J. D. Carr; The Setons, O. Douglas; Dusk to Dawn, Chas. Graves. Up To Standard Although there were not many nurses being trained at Whakatane the chairman, Mr J. Mullins, said at the Bay of Plenty Hospital Board meeting yesterday, the results gained in the state examinations were gratifying and showed that the Whakatane tutorial staff was up to the standard of other hospitals.,. In the last examination all pupils who' sat were successful. Road Courtesy Talk v " ■ Speaker at this week’s gathering of the Whakatane Rotary Club was A.A. Patrolman Kemp, who gave a talk on road courtesy and road safety. Having dealt at some length with the A.A.’s work amongst'School children, he went" on to point out how the constant practice of courteous consideration of' others would help not only motorists themselves but the cause of road safety in general. A brief run through the technicalities of road offences was an eye-opener to many Rotarians;
