129 State Houses For Ex-servicemen Granted During May
During last May a further 129 State housing tenancies were allocated under the system whereby at least half of all newly vacant or newly built State rental houses and flats go to ex-servicemen. This brought the total number so allocated until the end of that month to 10,537. Rehabilitation housing committees in each centre make the allocations on a basis of relative urgency.
Allocations to ex-servicemen m the various districts are given below, those for May being shown in AucklandlNorth Auckland 3048 (27), Waikato-Bav of Plenty 849 (20), Hawkes Bay-Poverty Bay 522 (12), Taranaki 316 (4), Wellington, including Manawatu, Wanganui, Wairarapa, and Hutt Valley 3,548 (39), Nelson-Marlborough-Westland 287 (4), Canterbury Province 1,181 (18), Otago Province 566 (3), Southland 220 (2); totals 10,537 (129).
