BAY OF PLENTY BOWLING CHAMPS. ARE TO BE ZONED
To save time and excessive travelling by clubs in the outer districts, next year’s centre bowling championships are to be divided into two zones. The players who qualify in each zone will meet and the eventual winners of the zone competitions will play off for the provincial finals. This was decided at the annual meeting of the Bay of Plenty Centre of the New Zealand Bowling Association held at Te Puke, and presided over by Mr J. W. Wilson, Whakatane. Along with the zoning the question of conducting the different centre championships in accordance with N.Z.B.A. rules was discussed and it was decided to hold the singles and the pairs this year and to hold next year the champion of champions fours. Because of the necessary steel to construct the runway not being available no bowl testing was able to be carried out last year the official bowling tester, Mr Griffiths, Opotiki, reported. There was a possibility that some of the material might arrive this year and he was hopeful that testing would be able to be carried out as soon as the runway was constructed. Since the centre rules had been last revised in 1933 new regulations and rules have been adopted by the N.Z.B.A. it was stated. To bring the Bay of Plenty rules up to date a sub-committee of the Tauranga delegates was elected. They are to prepare a draft copy of a new set of rules more in keeping with present day conditions. They will be presented for confirmation at the half-yearly general meeting in December.
