Opouriao Farmer As Labour Candidate Against Mr Sullivan

According to a Wellington message, Mr 'T. G. Santon, Opouriao, has been officially endorsed as the Labour Party’s candidate for the Bay of Plenty seat at the general election this year.

Mr Santon was born in 1907 at Opouriao Valley and was educated at the Opouriao Valley and Taneatua schools before taking up the responsibility of working his father’s farm.

He served five years in the forces, including active service in Egypt and Italy, during which time he rose to the rank of captain. He was wounded in action.

He is president of the Bay of Plenty Labour Representation Committee and president of the Taneatua branch of the Labour Party. Mr Santon’s active interest in farming problems includes chairmanship of the Opouriao Bobby Calf Pool. He is also an executive member of the Whakatane branch of the N.Z.R.S.A. Made a Justice of the Peace in 1948, Mr Santon is married with two children. He is at present farming the family estate.
