SCOUT TROOP AT WHAKATANE ON SOUND FOOTING
“Association with the Scouts and Cubs and their training has been for me a never-ending source of interest and insipiration. The boys as T have seen them are a particularly fine class of lads keen on their work and eager to line up to the standards of good Scouting. I have the same pleasure and satisfaction from the work as I have done during the last four years,” says the chairman, Mr Chas. Zinsli, in his fourth annual report to be presented at the annual meeting of the Whakatdne Citizens’ Boy Scout Committee this evening. Mr Zinsli, after pointing out that it is not the aim of the scout organisation to run the affairs for large profits, but is sufficient to finance the activities of the troop as funds are available, says the year’s credit balance is £133 17s, a sound footing for another - prosperous year. He adds: “I would like to record my appreciation and thanks to the ladies of the committee for their efforts in holding a street day and collecting £2l 14s 4d also the ladies of the Guide Movement who so kindly assisted. Helpers Needed
“Strength of the scouts now stand at 27 and the Cubs at 52, Mr Zinsli continues. “What I would like to impress on the parents and people is that no organisation for the benefit of youth can be really successful unless it has the co-operation and assistance of the parents and the public. We need a Scoutmaster and a Cubmaster urgently. If we can procure them, Scouting will advance and take its full place in the very vital work of producing the strong, clean minded and progressive citizens of the future.
“Some weeks ago, we held a very successful Scout 'rally here. Although the Indoor Basketball Association had hired the hall they kindly stood down to let us have the use of the building for which we are truly grateful and thank them. There were 250 Scouters and Scouts here and we also thank those who billeted them and all those who assisted in any way. Again I offer my congratulations and thanks to the ladies of the committee who worked like the traditional Trojans and real Scouts in providing morning tea, lunch and afternoon, tea for such a gathering, a really magnificent effort. “In conclusion, I wish to thank the Commissioner and Patrol leaders for their work in training the various packs and troops and for the time they devoted to this service to the Community, also the committee for their loyal support and co-operation over the past year I feel Sure that we can look forward with confidence to the future of scouting.”
