Children’s Sanatorium In Greece
The Greek Red Cross' possesses a sanatorium at Voula for children suffering from osseous tuberculosis which is the only establishment of its kind in Greece.
It was opened in 1922 with the personal and financial assistance of the former Chairman of the Greek Red Cross, Mr Athanasaki, and at the moment houses 450 silk children and 30 adult patients.
The wooden hutments which originally formed the sanatorium have been replaced by modern buildings consisting of nine pavilions, all reserved exclusively for the treatment of osseous tuberculosis.
’ In normal times the sanatorium is staffed by four chief surgeons, each with a clinic chief and two assistants, all doctors, but mobilisation requirements have at the present time reduced the staff. One of the pavilions is at the disposal of paying patients.
