Negligent Driving: Mill Fitter Fined

Pleading guilty to a charge of negligent driving and not guilty, of being intoxicated while in charge of a car on June 25, Kenneth James Arblaster (Mr C. A. Suckling), mill fitter, Whakatane, was fined £2O, costs 34/- by Mr L. Brown and Mrs D. C. Petty, J’s.P., for negligent driving, in the Whakatane Police Court on Wednesday. The second charge was dismissed. Prosecuting, Constable R. F. Julian said that about 11 p.m. on June 25 he attended an accident in Domain Road where a car driven by the accused had collided with and damaged a car owned by George William Drayson. Arblaster was taken in charge and examined medically. He had smelt strongly of liquor. Evidence was also given by Dr E. F. C. Hefford, George William Drayson, and lan McKenzie. Dr Hefford said that, at the time he examined him, Arblaster was capable of driving a car.
