Whakatanian in Opera

Few New Zealanders can claim to have appeared on the stage in a genuine Italian Opera. Certainly few people from Whakatane haye ever done so. However a former resident of the town, Mr M. McGill, who was, until a few weeks ago, working at the Whakatane Post Office, recently appeared in two operas at Palmerston North as a “walk on” and a “soldier.” "Whether he was a success in his minor parts is not known but it is significant that he appeared in only two operas.
