Hotel Licences Are Not For Liquor Alone
Applications for licences and renewals were made by 17 publicans in the Bay of Plenty to the Bay of Plenty Licensing Committee at Rotorua last week. In each case the police reported that the standard of conduct of all the hotels concerned was satisfactory.
Commenting on the applications the chairman of the committee, Mr W. H. Freeman, S.M., said that publicans 'had to remember that their licences were not only for the sale of liquor but also for the travelling public, . who must be given consideration! in requests for meals and accommodation.
“We sometimes hear complaints by travellers that accommodation has been- denied them,” Mr Free,man "added. “It is the duty of all licensees to provide accommodation and they must do so whenever it is available,”
