RE-LICENSING OF MOTOR VEHICLES GOING STEADILY
“Proceeding steadily and at a very deliberate pace,” is how post office officials described the relicensing of motor vehicles at Whakatane, which has been going on, in case any motorist is not aware of fj the fact, since June 1. Generally there has not. been any rush although the staff engaged with the licensing have been kept busy. There are 2100 vehicles of various descriptions in the Whakatane register and of this number about 2,000 will be registered by June 30. ’Up to Friday last about 1000 vehicles had been registered. New registrations and licensing have to be completed by July 1. Although no new number plates are being issued this year, applicants are required to state in their forms ■the present plate number, and not the Humber on the current windscreen .sticker. The 1949-50 stickers have black lettering on a midchrome background. For. private cars the third party insurance is 4s dearer. The total cost for relicensing, third party insurance and sticker is £3/5/6 while for a business car the fee is the same as last year, £4/0/6. At Whakatane the relicensing is being done in the main post office and not in the new building down the end of the lane. A special, staff is. doing the work. To avoid the usual last minute rush post office, officials are requesting motorists to carry out their relicensing as early as possible.
