Bus & Taxi Terminus To be Established At Pohaturoa Rock

Permission to erect a temporary bus terminus behind the Pohaturoa Rock was granted the Ohope Bus Transport Company and a firm of ■taxi proprietors by the Whakatane Borough Council at this week’s monthly meeting. An office, where parcels can be left and inquiries made, is planned. Discussing the matter the Council felt that the time was approaching when a permanent central bus terminus would be required for Whakatane. “We must look ahead now and plan a bus terminus for the future,” Cr C. S. Armstrong declared. It was an important matter for the town, Cr R. T. Morpeth pointed out. The borough now had a bus service it had never ffiad before and a terminus behind the Rock would provide something which was required. The Chamber of Commerce was also interested in the question. The Mayor, Mr B. S. Barry, suggested that permission be granted for a temporary terminus to see how it would work out in the meantime. This was adopted and the terminus is to be erected subject to the requirements of the borough foreman.
