Mr W. Sullivan, M.P. & Labour Government In New Zealand
“Mr Nash’s ultimate policy is complete Socialism or complete State control, and New Zealand will become entirely under State control and State ownership as fast as Mr Nash and his Government can do it,” said Mr W. Sullivan, M.P., Whakatane, in an address to a large audience of the Mamaku Branch of the New Zealand National Party last week. “‘There have been immense losses in the Government railways, in the Onekaka steel works, and State tourist hotels—in fact, practically every Government department outside the Post and Telegraph Departmen is running at a loss, and the population is paying for them iff taxes.
“I think that the housewives in New Zealand today will help in putting the National Party in, as the housewives are the household buyers, and they cannot be deceived by the high wages of today. They see only too plainly the disproportionate cost of goods and the cost of living. A house, if you can get one, that cost £I2OO in 1934, would cost £2400 today,” remarked Mr Sullivan.
